Just to the right of where I'm standing is where the bomb exploded a week or so back outside the Armed Forces recruiting station. Just to my left is the Skechers store, previous home to my 3 latest pairs of shoes. To the right in the Virgin store, you can buy almost any CD or DVD you like. 3 floors of stuff! Further down the way, under The Maxwell sign is a TGIFriday's. Home to some great burgers. My fav is the one with the blue cheese sauce. Times Square has it all. Such an amazing, bustling and exciting place. My Uncle stayed in a hotel on 42nd St between 7th & 8th Aves in 1977. He and my Auntie went to go for a walk to Times Square (about 100 metres east of their hotel) after dinner. The doorman grabbed him by the arm and told him that he could not allow it. He couldn't ensure his safety if he went there because of all the drug dealers, prostitutes, pimps and shady people. 30 years on and it is a major tourist magnet. New York is like that. One area is bad and it becomes good a few years later. Really is a living, breathing and evolving city. I could go on and on but now I am boring myself. Bye.
Ps. This video by The Corrs was filmed right where I stood:
Now if I can only get Andrea Corr to help me kill my wife and marry me then all would be good (just kidding Janey)

Big city. Interesting image. Frank @ 2008-03-26 06:09:52
I enjoyed reading about the city. This is an interesting image. I'm wondering if anyone could possibly fit another sign anywhere:-) sherri @ 2008-03-26 15:26:39
Very cool. Quite a Scene. Love the bonnet on the Taxi too. Rohan @ 2008-03-26 21:05:33
Nice city shot, did you use HDR technique? Mohamadreza @ 2008-03-27 18:13:29
Yup exactly. We stayed in Times Sq over Christmas even though my bro and cousin both live there. Apartments too small and the two of us not wanting to intrude. And hate to admit it but I have been there, scared, really scared, albeit as a little tacker in 1977. And superb image too. ROB @ 2008-03-27 22:24:30
very interesting to read your notes... !!! ... and you have captured the "busy"ness of the street very effectively ... :) ... dilip @ 2008-04-19 04:25:35
Truly a beautiful shot -- great job. Having visited Times Square as well, I know that it's often hard to take any time to composite a shot because there are so many people around (and you don't want to be the one causing a backup in pedestrian traffic). So double kudos to you! When we were there, we stayed in The Time Hotel, which is on West 49th between 7th and 8th. We walked through Times Square too many times to count during that long weekend. It wasn't as overwhelming as I'd feared and yet it was...in a good way. Of course, talk about energy burn.
Next time we visit New York -- hopefully sometime this year since my husband has an apartment there he lets guests use -- I'm stopping more to shoot, pedestrian pile-up be damned. Leigh-Anne @ 2008-04-21 03:42:15
