Where on Earth did you get that?:
Santa Monica Beach west of Los Angeles in November 2006.
So this memorial is set up to honour the American service men and women who have died in the Iraq War. I took this shot from the Santa Monica Pier late in the afternoon on a gorgeous day. I had already been to Arlington Cemetery in Virginia and the war memorials around Washington DC a few times before I came out to Santa Monica. This struck me as equally moving as any of the other war memorials I had seen whether here in Australia or in the US, I guess because this is honouring a current conflict. The numbers change daily.
In other news, it appears as though this blog was a finalist in the 2007 Photoblog Awards for Oceania. Very cool I must say but I have no idea how it happened. Who organises this awards thing? How does it work? Who nominates? Where's my fuc$#@g prize? (1) Honestly, I know nothing about it other than it has happened and here is my speech:
"I am very thankful to God, Mum, Dad, Jane, Gerard, Brendan, Kellie, Jane's parents, my friends and all other family. Wow, this is so exciting! Thankyou all very much. i never imagined I could be honoured in such a way. You are all the best! Big love out to all my peeps and my East side crew and last but not least to my dead dog Chester." Ah, something like that anyway.
1 I accept that no prize is forthcoming but am pretty chuffed all the same.
